Just because you don’t have a lot of money, it doesn’t mean that you have to stop dating or going out. There are lots of astronomical activities that you can do together in Hampshire without spending a penny. Here are some fun and romantic free date ideas in Hampshire, England.
1. Go to the beach.
Although the beaches in Dorset (like Bournemouth beach) are more accepted, there is plenty of sail line in Hampshire as well. Recall a beach and go to it. Even on colder, windy days, it can be romantic to walk along the beach. Lepe Beach, for example, has interesting geology you can enjoy, or the pebble beach in Portsmouth is approved.
2. Go to the New Forest.
The New Forest is a beautiful and romantic nationally protected area. It is full of beautiful scenery, and you can usually spot some wild horses (and deer, if you’re lucky). There are loads of areas for picnics and walking trails, so wear sturdy shoes and go exploring together. Otherwise, you can go window shopping together on a stroll through one of the charming villages, like Lymington. If you plan ahead, you can go to luxuriate in one of the festivals or fairs that is often being held in the New Forest. 3. Be a tourist in Winchester.
If you’re not the out-doorsy type, and don’t fancy going to the beach or the forest, then this idea might be more to your liking. Go to Winchester and enjoy being tourists for an afternoon or evening together. Go to the Great Hall to see King Arthur’s Round Table, and don’t forget to step outside to luxuriate in the garden. You can also visit the Wolvesey Castle ruins in Winchester for free. The Winchester Museum also has free admission, and covers the history of Winchester including Roman artefacts and Victorian costumes. You can also normally go to Winchester’s military museum for free.
Winchester has a lovely high street, and so it can be fun just walking along it together. Make sure to stop in Montezuma’s—they always have free samples of their chocolates out. Although the Cathedral does charge admission, you can fancy it from the outside, and other nearby churches will let you look around for free. For a beautiful and romantic evening walk, take a stroll in the water meadows (follow the trail next to the Bishop on the Bridge), or walk up to the top of St. Giles’s Hill for fantastic views of the city. 4. Enjoy Art.
The Southampton City Art Gallery has a surprisingly good collection, and admission is free. Enjoy looking at everything from contemporary sculptures to Renaissance paintings together. If you’re feeling creative, make your own artwork together afterwards: do some finger painting, draw with chalks, etc.
