Have you ever wondered what someone on the opposite side of the planet is doing while you are at work or asleep? Fascinated by what people in Seattle are doing at the exact moment as others in Shanghai?

A Minute In the Life: The Simultaneous Photography Project hopes to clarify some of those thoughts with a unique and interesting exhibit.

On June 2nd, 2007, at 2:00 PM Eastern Time — 11:00 AM in Los Angeles, 8:00 PM in Paris, etc. — people across the globe are encouraged to take pictures and submit them to aminuteinthelife@gmail.com. As the photographs are received in the following days or weeks, they will be shared with the world in an online gallery.

Since its inception at the beginning of April, “A Minute In The Life” has received praise from nearly every corner of the globe. Relying solely on word of mouth, e-mail forwarding and networking via the internet, the event has already reached more than 2,000 people worldwide.

Visitors to the site from The United States have pledged their participation and will join others from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Burkina Faso, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, North Korea, Kuwait, Novel Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago and The United Arab Emirates.

While global interest has been rather steady and expectations are high, with a little over two weeks remaining until the valid event, the project’s creator encourages everyone to continue spreading the word as aggressively as possible.

“The concept is a clever one in and of itself, but it will not reach the level intended if people don’t continue to tell their friends and family,” explained Martin Locraft. “A thousand pictures from Washington, DC, while interesting, wouldn’t have the same impact as even 50 pictures from various timezones and countries.”

“I’m hoping it will be a really diverse and extensive exhibit,” continued Locraft, “but we’ll just have to wait and see. Until I actually receive pictures, the project remains in the conceptual stage. Momentum needs to continue and people need to build a note to themselves for the actual date, because while we all love cool ideas, sometimes they aren’t the first things on our minds.”

If you are interested in photography, would like to get a better sense of just how much goes on in our world at any particular moment, or simply find the belief engaging, grab your camera and spread the word!

Please visit www.aminuteinthelife.com for more information. If you’d like a reminder via e-mail a couple of days before the event, send a speedily note to aminuteinthelife@gmail and your address will be added to the list.
